Same-sex Marriage Bush Rant

7:58 PM - February 24, 2004

I am bloody fucking FURIOUS!

I need to rant. About the American President, George - not hugged enough as a child - Bush.

This guys is actually proposing to re-write America's constitution to make same-sex marriages Illegal.

What the holy fucking hell is he on!?

Ok. Anger over. Now I must back up my opnion with facts.

**Deep breath**

Who is Gay marriage hurting exactly? A guy on the BBC homepage - Mike from the USA put it perfectly:

"There is no reason that a marriage should affect anyone other than those people involved. If you don't believe in gay marriages, don't try and marry someone of your own sex."

Seriously, it's got nothing to do with anyone other than the two people getting married.

Do you really want to tell the 3,000 people who got married in San Fransisco in the last ten days that their marriages are illegal? That they cannot have that peace and security just because of their sexuality? How can anyone tell them that what they want and feel is wrong?

One of the things that really got my goat was this one preacher they showed on the Channel Four News who had a bunch of people outside a church waving banners saying: 'Same-sex marriage cannot produce this' and pictures of couples with lots of children.

Firstly - no shit sherlock but who says everyone *wants* kids anyway?

Secondly - adoption is a *good* thing! There are a lot of kids in every country who need a home so surely same-sex couples would help give children loving homes?

Thirdly - The anti-same-sex marriage argument (that doesn't degerneerate into a discussion on religion) is that it is better for children to be raised by two biological parents in a low-conflict relationship.

Sooooo many holes, so little time.

1) Statistically most families are now single parent families.

2) Low-conflict families DO NOT EXIST.

3) Does this argument also mean they are against children being adopted?

None of their arguments add up!

What gives Bush or any of these people the right to dictate how people should live? What gives that Preacher the right to describe Homosexuals and Gay-rights supporters the 'Immoral Few'?

Now tell me - if you had just got married, how would you feel if someone went on TV and said: "Your marriage is wrong! You're sick for being in love! Get out of America?"

Now lets look at this politically for a minute. Bush has seen that most of America is anti-gay marriage (*that* is an issue for another time) but does that give him the right to use this as a *vote winner!?* To try to use this issue to escape talk of Iraq, Unemployment and America's economy?

Probably because the words are all too big for his tiny little mind to comprehend!

but what Bush has not thought about is this:- How many people are going to want to live in a country where their feelings are deemed as wrong? Is he *trying* to alienate people?

Ok. This entry was supposed to help me vent and get less angry but it's actually done the opposite. I know it's not particularly lucid or flowing but being DAMN PISSED OFF tends to do that to my writing.

I'll say Ja Ne now before I get steamed up again.
